We've received word that the House will vote on the Matthew Shepard Act very soon and we know that right-wing groups are flooding Congress with calls, emails and sickening ‘fact sheets’ full of lies about the lives of LGBT Americans. We need more calls to Members of Congress, and we need them right away. It has been ten long years and tens of thousands more victims since the Matthew Shepard Act was first introduced in Congress. We are poised for a presidential signature this year but lies from the radical right could easily derail our efforts. We must not allow them to continue to demagogue and distort the truth.

We ask you to call Congress in support of the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, a bill which would provide local police and sheriff’s departments with
federal resources to combat hate violence. After more than a decade of lobbying on Capitol Hill and

WASHINGTON, DC – Seventeen Nashville Human Rights Campaign Steering Committee members joined hundreds others from around the country to participate in HRC’s annual Equality Convention and community awards ceremony. Nashville received an award for the highest netting silent auction, edging out favorite Seattle and besting much larger communities like Greater New York and Los Angeles. Silent Auction Co-Chair Debra Hyslop accepted the award on behalf of the Steering Committee. The Nashville Committee also picked up an award for its partnership with TEP on state-wide issues and received special recognition for having the second largest delegation for National LGBT Lobby Day in D.C.
“It was an incredible honor and wonderful surprise,” said Hyslop. “We knew we did well last year but had no idea we bested everyone else.”
This year’s silent auction promises to be just as impressive and Hyslop hopes to pick-up the award again in 2010. The 2009 HRC Nashville Equality Dinner Silent Auction begins at 6pm on March 14thhttp://www.theequalitydinner.com for more information or to purchase tickets to the event. Read More »
